While I have experience with freezing races, as my husband and I have done the Yukon Arctic Ultra when we experienced -50 degrees, I was not prepared for the temperature differences we experienced this year.
The constant rain from the start of the race until the early evening hours assured me that next year I will wear rubber gloves, a raincoat and a proper plastic bag to keep everything dry. A spare pair of gloves, a t-shirt and 2 socks will also come in handy.
I won't underestimate the drinking regime and I will definitely take a camelbak so I don't have to hunt for a bottle on my sled, where the water froze anyway.
I will definitely take more dried food, because there will not always be an open pub where they cook even after 22:00 in the evening. Therefore I recommend at least one thermos of hot water.
