THE ROUTE

The route is fixed. It follows the footsteps of original JIBE JAHA trail, which mirrors the Stezka Českem trail and the winter ViaCzechia trail. Trail through the Czech Republic and winter ViaCzechia trails. Often, it simply follows a tourist-marked path that no one walks in winter. So, a good sense of navigation will come in handy. You will receive a GPX track. We highly recommend using the Mapy.cz app on your phone, where you can find up-to-date information on groomed trails, precise tourist markings, and details about pubs, shops, shelters, and other useful spots. The route is not marked by the organizer. More details about the route can be found in the rules.

It’s a challenging route and it can turn in minutes from ideal and idyllic conditions into a hellish march in deep snow or, on the contrary, no snow at all. That’s why you need to be prepared for everything.

RULES

  • The route is fixed and you can not choose shorter and sometimes more tempting routes. However, the route can be significantly extended (more info about the route will be given to each registered competitor before the start and during the race briefing)
  • Part of the mandatory equipment is a gps tracker, which you will receive before the start, and you will be tracked along the route.
  • You have to move all the way from the start to the finish using only your own power.
  • Exceptions to leaving the route
You can leave the route, either consciously or unconsciously, but you always need to return to the route at the same place where you left the route. After leaving the route, you can move in any way you like. After returning to the route, you move again under your own power. This also applies to a situation where you are forced to use movement along the route with the help of someone else in order to solve an emergency situation – you must always return to the place where you ended the movement under your own power.
  • In the case of bivvy, you must return the bivvy site to its original state. It is forbidden to bivy in National Parks
  • You carry everything you need on the trail. Any planned support that would provide you with refreshments, equipment or disadvantage others with their help is prohibited. Therefore, you may not have a support team or person with you during the challenge. You are on your own and your own skills.
  • Meeting the other person and accompanying him/her for a short time is possible, but only if the other participants are not disadvantaged (i.e. they must not go in front of you, brake the trail, navigate or provide everything described above).
  • If you have any problem, you must help yourself (apart from urgent medical help), or you can accept any random help. That means accepting whatever fate throws your way.
  • It is mandatory to have the rear red flashing lights on, even in daylight when using any road for motorized vehicles
  • There are plenty of places to recharge your batteries, buy refreshments and even arrange accommodation on the way. You can also send a package to the post office in your name to pick up along the way.
  • Participants can help each other in any way they like.
  • This is a nonstop challenge and the time managment is up to you.
  • Fair play and following the rules are taken for granted because you do it for yourself and the biggest reward for your performance is the knowledge of what you have accomplished.
  • If you miss the race limit, you should not continue.
  • The minimum age of the participant is 18 years.

ROUTE ETIQUETTE

  • Be considerate of all other visitors and tourists on the route and do not restrict them in any way.
  • Do not violate the regulations and rules of the nature reservations, do not enter private lands and buildings without prior agreement.
  • It is strictly forbidden to enter the machine-groomed ski track for the classic skiing unless you are skiing. For the foot category there is a strict prohibition to move on groomed trails without snowshoes if soft snow!! And even with snowshoes, treat the groomed ski trails with respect and preserve the good name of the race.
  • Give ski visitors to the mountains priority and be nice to them even if they won't be nice to you.
  • Never bivvy on the trail, always stay off the trail (where it is not forbidden by National parks)
  • Strict ban on throwing away or burying waste, everything needs to be thrown away in the places designated for it, usually it is a dustbin.
  • Poo – never on trail, dig a hole and bury all the products well under the snow.
  • When moving on any road or path where cars are driving, keep your red light on and be clearly visible. Anticipate drivers' reactions - snow drifts, icy conditions, reduced visibility,...

MANDATORY GEAR

  • GPS Tracker, which you will receive on Thursday before the start. When you are finished, you will hand it in at the finish line. In case of scratching, you send it to our address as soon as possible by post.
  • Cell phone - working, charged and always on. That's so we can contact you and you can contact us. So you can call for help anytime. To make it easier for you to navigate. And some selfies and panoramas will come in handy, too. Plus, one text message a day to HQ is mandatory.
  • Sleeping bag
  • Red rare light to be used on the roads.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT

  • A lightweight bivvy bag can come in handy on the mountain ridges - temperatures can drop below -20°C in some places, and when you add humidity and wind, it can be life-threatening. A sleeping bag often comes in handy at mountain huts when there is no space. Sleeping mat.
  • Clothes for winter and wet weather.
  • First aid kit, navigation, headlamp, spare batteries, heat pads, items to repair equipment, toilet paper, cash.
  • Backpack.
  • Lightweight sled (pulka) which can be easily attached to the backpack. In machined groomed trails the sled will lighten your weight, but there are places where you can't pull it (without snow), so it should be easy to attach to your backpack so you can easily walk.
  • You should be ready to face all possible weather conditions. And if necessary, sleep anywhere, anytime, make basic repairs and treat your injuries on your own.
  • Powerful and lightweight powerbank.

DANGER

  • On the mountains ridges, especially in the Krkonoše, Jeseníky and Beskydy mountains, extreme conditions can occur. Strong winds, heavy snowfall, zero visibility, temperatures well below freezing, which can lead to hypothermia, disorientation and serious damage to health or death. Therefore, in these parts, it is necessary to be really cautious, plan well ahead, anticipate and do not take unnecessary risks. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and decisions. Even the Czech mountains can be quite harsh, and humility and respect are in order.
  • Moving on the roads for motorized vehicles is the biggest danger and threat, so always be as careful as possible and never take risks.

DECLARATION

During the race registration, you sign a declaration that you are familiar with the risks of the event and that you take all the responsibility resulting in injury (injury, permanent consequences, death). The same applies to damage of material. You start at your own risk and you are aware that the event is not secure by medics or organized in any way. With your signature, you also confirm that you are completely healthy and that you are not aware of anything that would endanger your good health. Every mountain has a Mountain Rescue Service and almost everywhere there is a signal to call for help, but call for help only in a truly emergency situation. But most importantly, do your best not to get into a problem, and if you do get into it, do your best to solve it in time.

REPORTING

You should send a short text message once a day, so we can let the world know how you're doing. It's for the appeal of following the challenge, and also for us to check on your status.

WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RACE

If you decide to scratch, notify us immediately by text or phone and don't forget to send back the gps tracker when you get home.

PENALTY AND DISQUALIFICATION

You will be given a time penalty for unconsciously shortening the route. Deliberate and repeated violations of the rules may result in disqualification. But it would be pointless to violate the rules because it’s about the experience, not the result.

RESULTS AND PRIZES

If you complete the challenge, you will receive a finisher's medal at the finish line. The race is not for prizes, but the after race party will take place in May at the running event Mácháč Run Fest Machac Run Fest May 2026. There is no winner or loser. The results will be published after the end of the call.
